2024 Reads - Second Quarter, Part 2
Back when my friend and I used to meet up once a month at Barnes & Noble to choose our next read together, we were almost always swayed by the prettiest book covers! One of the books listed below was exactly that.
I have started using a rating system, based off of Goodreads’ 5-star rating system, when discussing books with others.
1-star — did not enjoy, do not recommend
2-star — partially enjoyed, but would not recommend
3-star — enjoyed, would recommend to others based on interests
4-star or 5-star — greatly enjoyed, would definitely recommend
Have you had the chance to read for pleasure yet this year? Do you used Goodreads or another social cataloguing website or app? Leave a comment letting me know what you’re currently reading, what you’d like to read next, or what you’d think I might like to read. I’m constantly looking for new reading material!
1. The Liar's Dictionary by Eley Williams - 2-star - This was a monthly book club read which I did not particularly enjoy. While the cover was clever and the premise interesting, the story felt disjointed, with a confusing connection between past and present and an unfulfilled ending.
2. Cilka's Journey by Heather Morris - 3-star - After finishing The Tattooist of Auschwitz, I was pleased to hear about a sequel. Although it was a fictional piece following one of the original characters, I did not find it as compelling as the first book. Would still recommend this if you like historical World War II fiction.
3. The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh - 4-star - When I saw the beautiful, colorful cover featured at the library, I immediately grabbed it from its display. The story was bittersweet, evoking the feel of ancient Asian folklore. It was a quick, engaging read and did not take much effort to get through.
