2024 Reads - Second Quarter, Part 1

I ventured over to the science fiction and fantasy section of my library for my next few reads.

I have started using a rating system, based off of Goodreads’ 5-star rating system, when discussing books with others.
1-star — did not enjoy, do not recommend
2-star — partially enjoyed, but would not recommend
3-star — enjoyed, would recommend to others based on interests
4-star or 5-star — greatly enjoyed, would definitely recommend

Have you had the chance to read for pleasure yet this year? Do you used Goodreads or another social cataloguing website or app? Leave a comment letting me know what you’re currently reading, what you’d like to read next, or what you’d think I might like to read. I’m constantly looking for new reading material!

1. Moths by Jane Hennigan - 3-star - The cover art drew me in with its simplicity, while the back cover reminded me of The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey. The dystopian “what if?” thriller piqued my interest. I was glad to learn there was a sequel after I finished the book.

2. Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher - 4-star - This was my first time reading T. Kingfisher, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a short, entertaining story featuring a fairy, a knight, a princess, and a curse.

3. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel - 3-star - Another dystopian read but at a much slower pace than Moths. We had started watching the HBO television show but never got around to finishing it, so I decided to read the book instead. The story jumps between the past and the future, and seeing everything link together in the end was satisfying.
